Kanye West, left, makes a guest appearance as Jay-Z performs at Yankee Stadium in New York.

Discerning observers, however, may not be so surprised. Jay-Z’s and Kanye West’s “No Church in the Wild” features prominently in both the first and second trailers of the film. Though official representatives haven’t yet confirmed the rapper’s role in help producing the score, Samuel leaked the news through Twitter:

And really, is there any better embodiment of the American Dream than the Brooklyn-born rapper? Especially with his famous line — “from Marcy to Madison Square” — Jay-Z doesn’t shy away from his upbringing in the Bedford-Stuyvesant housing projects while proudly proclaiming his newly-obtained superstardom. It’s a story that jibes with the flashy wealth of the movie’s titular character, Jay Gatsby.

And it seems, as well, that the cast and crew simply enjoy Jay’s music. Actress Isla Fisher told MTV News that the Luhrmann was particularly keen on the rapper’s music during production. “On my first day he had Jay-Z pumped up full and we did the entire scene with, you know, Jay-Z in our ear on full blast while acting and it was just so liberating.”

The Australian director is mostly well-known for producing vibrant films such as Moulin Rouge, Romeo + Juliet and Strictly Ballroom. Though The Great Gatsby was originally slated to be released last year, it is expected to hit theaters in early July.

It will actually be Craig Armstrong who does the score for The
Great Gatsby. His involvement was confirmed some time ago. Armstrong has
previously worked with Luhrmann on Moulin Rouge and Romeo + Juliet.
Apparently, Jay-Z will contribute, but not compose the entire score. For

A new low letting this clown help write the score for this film.  God how I envy my parents, they had Motown and love.  We have dumb n*ggas and sneakers.
