From ‘Baby Got Back’ To ‘Santa Baby’ In Under A Minute

The most overused word in pop music just got that much more obvious.

In under a minute, musician Chad Neidt pays homage to 19 chart-topping songs with the word “baby.” The mash-up includes the new (Justin Bieber’s cleverly titled “Baby“), the old (“Baby I Love Your Way” by Peter Frampton), the classics (“Hush Little Baby“) and even commercial hits (that Chili’s song about baby back ribs). There’s even a “Baby Counter” to let you know how many times the word comes up in the video – 31.5 in all (Sonny and Cher’s “I Got You Babe” only counts for half).

Though Neidt is only sitting in what looks like a home office (with guitars adorning the walls behind him), he jams to all 19 songs, and actually does some pretty good covers. His hard rock version of Britney Spears’ “…Baby One More Time” is especially invigorating.

Neidt has done these “one minute mashups” before, using Nickelback and “songs about the end of the world” for inspiration. Clearly, he has a soft spot for hackneyed pop culture touchstones. Raised in Denver, Colo., Neidt is now working the Los Angeles scene as a part-time musician, comedian, actor and filmmaker. Last October, he launched a Kickstarter to raise money for a debut album, and exceeded his goal within a month. His debut album is slated for spring of this year. The world, or at least YouTube, can expect to hear many more mashups in the coming months, for better or worse.
