Choosing a baby's name can be a tough decision for parents.
If you’re feeling broody but don’t want your new arrival getting lost in the crowd, make sure to check out the new top baby names of 2012 — and then name your precious bundle of joy something else.
Parenting.com analyzed the most searched-for baby names of 2012 to predict which ones will be filling up nurseries in 2013. The results: Jacob, Max and Liam joined Isabelle, Millie and Sookie as the six most common name searches by expectant parents last year.
But aside from the apparent inclusion of the True Blood–inspired Sookie — a statistical outlier, we think, if ever there was one — the overall trend of this year’s baby names is retro. Ann, Betty and Ellie are making a comeback for girls, while Ted, Bertie and Gus are newly hot names for boys.

While triskaidekaphobics may think 2013 is an inauspicious year to be welcoming a little one, the future could be bright for those who pick the same name for their newborn as that of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, expecting their first baby in July. Traditional British names are already making a resurgence, according to the newly released survey, with both Kate and William climbing back up the rankings. (As for the royal heir, British bookmaker William Hill is currently placing at 10-1 that the baby will be named Victoria or Diana, while Charles and Phillip are the top picks for a boy at 14-1.)
