It’s been a rough couple of days for Barbara Walters. Last week, the ABC News host fell down at an inauguration party at an ambassador’s home in Washington, D.C. She suffered a cut on her temple and was sent to the hospital, where she remained for treatment of an ongoing fever. And now, it turns out that she’s got a case of the chicken pox, ABC News reports.

“We want to give you an update on Barbara,” Whoopi Goldberg, Walters’ co-host on The View, said on the show Monday:

“You all know that she fell and cut her head 10 days ago, and then was running a temperature, but it turns out it is all the result of a delayed childhood. Barbara has the chicken pox. She’d never had it as a child. So now she’s been told to rest, she’s not allowed any visitors. And we’re telling you, Barbara, no scratching.”

Walters was transferred last week from a hospital in D.C. to one in New York City, and said she expects to be home very soon, according to ABC News. The 83-year-old veteran journalist thanked “all the people who have called, written and been concerned” through a statement read on The View.

...and so what? Many folks have far worse and who the heck is she anyways? Big deal....wow, so very impressive indeed and what big egos and so self-important...go down to the local cemetery and see if anyone can figure out what these folks did for a living and in not too many years later, no one to remember anyone -- get over yourself!

I'm sure that in your line of work you've seen it all and there is not much that has shocked you. One who has to know "Why" [alot of stick's in the mud to get thru]Not to change the subject tell me Barb do you know where the Shingle, chicken pox virus comes from?If there was anything I could say to make you feel better,I would /

Guess she didn't opt for the vaccine. This could be very serious at her age.

Wow....83?  It's amazing what cosmetic surgery can do nowadays...makes Barbara look at least 20 years younger!  I hope that she recovers, soon, from chicken pox.

It would be very unusual that Barbara didn't have C pox as a child........  you can have C pox twice, because I did.  As a child my mother noticed 3 little bumps on my wrist that looked like chicken pox, but that was all that it ever became (and she is a nurse).   Alas, in my 20's as a teacher before the vaccine came out, I got a horrible case of the chicken pox AND pneumonia!   It was awful!   I also never developed a titre for rubella, despite receiving all my childhood vaccines on schedule. I  also had shingles in my early thirties.     I'll bet Barbara had a very mild, unnoticed case of the chicken pox as a child because I am living proof that strange things and and do happen.

@BethannMulville From what you have endured I hope you have seen a Clinical Immunologist for a CVID work up.  Sounds like part of a fairly typical initial presentation.  Monitoring and treatment are important to prevent the kind of serious infections you have experienced. Best fo luck!

@BethannMulville "3 little bumps on my wrist that looked like chicken pox, but that was all that it ever became (and she is a nurse)." Of course that alone doesn't prove you had chicken pox then. Poison oak? Insect bites? Unknown allergic reaction?

@BethannMulville Very rare to have it twice!! My older brother got the CP at 4yrs., and my mother assumed I myself had a mild case also @ 2yrs. Found out years later that I had in fact never had it. The logic was that I was still young enough that I still had my mother's immunity. Finally got around to the Varivax last summer.

So sorry to read about her illness.  Catching the chicken pox as an adult can be deadly.  We just don't bounce back like little kids do.  Thank you so much for sharing this information with the public.  People need to know that even adults can catch this disease.  We sure do hope she recovers fully.  She is a national treasure:  smart and beautiful and not afraid to speak her mind.  She is an amazing role model for all women and young girls.

ok someone explain to me PLEASE and tell me WHY this is news??? People get the chicken pox everyday and it doesn't make news.  This isn't

news anymore than Hillary Clinton bumping her head was news.  Jesus people, it must be a slow news day.

What bothers me is that my husband wants to do her.

Ironically Barbara Walters had a crush on Richard Nixon. Nixon, who could he very funny told her she must need new glasses. Your husband needs glasses too.
