Two of R & B’s biggest stars — one much-loved, the other much less so — got into a fight this morning outside of a Westlake recording studio, reports TMZ. Frank Ocean and Chris Brown reportedly got into a fight over one of the most valuable items known to denizens of Los Angeles: a good parking space.

According to TMZ, who seemingly only spoke to people associated with Brown, Ocean started it:

As Chris went to leave [the studio], Frank Ocean and his crew blocked Chris from leaving. The sources say Frank said, ‘This is my studio, this is my parking spot.’ We’re told Chris went to shake Frank’s hand … and that’s when one of Frank’s people attacked Chris … one of Chris’ friends jumped in front and hit Frank’s friend … Frank then came at Chris … Chris pushed him away and they started brawling.

Ocean took to Twitter with his own version of the skirmish, though, which put the onus on Brown:

(If you’re wondering who Everest is, according to the New York Times, it’s not Ocean’s bodyguard, but rather his Bernese mountain dog.)

Police were called to the scene, but Brown had apparently already decamped, leaving Ocean to give his account to authorities. According to TMZ, Ocean is being referred to as “the victim” by the cops; he claims that Brown punched him after the parking space faceoff. Ocean says he may have been injured in the fight. He tweeted:

Frank Ocean was nominated for six Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist, Album of the Year and Record of the Year, while Brown was nominated for one. At this year’s ceremony, Brown may be performing a duet with ex-girlfriend Rihanna, with whom he has an extremely troubled Grammys history. The day of the 2009 ceremony, Brown physically attacked the Barbadian singer, sending her to the hospital. He was charged with assault and is on probation until 2014 after pleading guilty.

For his part, Brown has been silent on the social media site about the situation. Police are reportedly looking to speak with him about the incident, although neither party wishes to press charges.
