Rapper Rick Ross had an eventful — and frightening — morning.

Police say the founder of the Maybach Music Group crashed his Rolls Royce into an apartment building after hearing shots fired. Now Fort Lauderdale, Fla, police are saying that the rapper was the intended target of the shooting. The gunman has not been apprehended.

Ross, whose real name is William L. Robertson, was reportedly driving down East Las Olas Boulevard around 5:00 a.m. when a car pulled up alongside. Then, multiple shots were fired, according to witnesses speaking to the local news affiliate. The bullets missed Ross (and his Rolls Royce), but hit several local businesses. As the gunman fired at him, Ross lost control of his vehicle, ultimately crashing into an apartment building. Ross and his passenger, fashion designer Shateria L. Moragne-el, 28, were not injured in either the shooting or the crash. Authorities say the unknown suspects fled before police arrived.

Ross’ most recent album, “God Forgives, I Don’t,” is nominated this year for the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album.
