Britain’s New Slogan: Don’t Come to the U.K.!

An advertising campaign designed to illustrate the drawbacks of living in the U.K. is being planned to deter an expected surge of immigrants, according to reports.

Quotas limiting the number of immigrants from Bulgaria and Romania are due to expire next year, which will suddenly give 29 million people the right to live and work unrestricted in Britain. Predictions of how many will actually emigrate from both countries range from 250,000 within five years to 425,000 within two years, reports the Guardian.

One plan to curb the expected influx of migrants is to deport those who move to Britain just to claim state benefits; another option would be to require people arriving from Romania and Bulgaria to prove that they can support themselves for at least six months, reports the Daily Mail.

But the best (or at least, the most amusing) method of deterring immigrants may be to convince them that they don’t want to come to Britain at all.  Government ministers are reportedly considering a negative ad campaign that focuses on the downsides of British life, in order to “correct the impression that the streets here are paved with gold,” the Guardian reports one government official as saying.

There’s been no indication yet of what such a campaign would look like — whether it would focus on the benefits staying in their countries or make Britain look as unpleasant as possible. The Guardian invited its readers to send in their own suggestions for poster designs, and the results are unstintingly harsh — miserable weather, violent hooligans, binge drinking, litter and unreliable public transport all get called out — not to mention hilarious.

But a negative ad campaign flies in the face of the billions of pounds Britain spent on last Summer’s Olympics — partly to burnish the country’s reputation, notes the Guardian.  One member of parliament has said the supposed plans “border on the farcical,” according to the BBC.

The idea has actually been tried before: the town of Leicester targeted a negative advertising campaign at would-be immigrants from Uganda in the early 1970s – although as the Daily Telegraph notes, the scheme had little effect.

Just expel them all, just like the Spaniards did the Moors! As easy as that! Grow some guts, and that goes to the U.S.A. too!

See what you get when you have the ability to govern yourselfs fairly with the rule of law.

Too bad so many countries in the world just cannot.

Don't come to Britain.  George Osborne is chancellor.

Wait till the Mexicans start coming in droves. I've already noticed Mexicans have started to take over all the janitor jobs at Heathrow airport. A few years ago, it was mostly Sikh and Indian now all i saw were mexicans. Britain might think they could possibly have a Romanian or Bulgarian problem but the real problem will be when mexicans start taking over just like they have the USA.

They should just send these prospective immigrants a sample of British cuisine. That should do it.

As someone with a BA in History (and a History Teacher), it's truly SAD to watch the world's former premier power repeatedly shoot itself in the foot and the 'arse.'

How much more damage can Britain do to itself??  It's already succumbed to political correctness, and is buried in multicultural filth.  The proud tradition of what defines an Englishman is on the wane, and is shattering a common identity among Brits.

There's no spine, no pride, and no balls left in Britain, and that is a damn shame.

@mrbomb13 Interesting comment. One would imagine that as a history teacher, you would recall how Britain went around the world "invading other countries/continents", disintegrating their identities and their cultures. Well, the empire came calling.

The same way Britain colonized the world, is the same way the world will colonize Britain. Enjoy the remnants of British exceptionalism.

Fambondi, you may then take a look at these former British colonies and see how they are far out performing thier neighbors.   So much so that many are the destinations for these neighboring countries peoples to immigrate to for better lives and opportunities.

Now is you want to talk about poor colonization just look at the former Spanish, French and Dutch colonies. They were truly stunted.

Come to Britain, where we spend billions on worthless pageantry, politicians, and unjust wars, while simultaneously closing libraries and hospitals, cutting university spending, and otherwise kicking the population in the face. You will be cold, wet, and miserable, the poor here will hate you for "stealing their jobs" and "refusing to speak English". Crooked landlords will take advantage of you, medical personnel will resent you, your bilingual children will put a strain on a school system that's already struggling due to lack of funding.

I grew up in probably the most multicultural location outside of London (Slough), and wouldn't change it for the world (even though it's a crappy industrial wasteland) but unless you truly cannot find the work you need in your home country, please don't come here unless you're going to help overthrow the Tories.

Honesty is the best policy.

This is pure rasism! This campaign targets white Europeans (like Romanians and Bulgarians) and does not target other (like Indian, Pakistani, Arab) just because the British behind this regard white Europeans as competition and the rest of the world as not!!

@domujunior Or, alternatively, it might have something to do with the fact that EU treaties give all EU nationals free right of movement within the entire EU.  India is not part of the EU.  Pakistan is not part of the EU.  No Arab country that I know of is part of the EU.

That is the most f'ed up version of racism I've come across.  Your statement only reveals your personal amount of self-hatred that your trying to deal with by projecting it.  Good luck with finding your inner peace with yourself.

Such discussion shows few things:

- the politicians always think/act as politicians - like in this case playing with the fears of the citizens

- there is always somebody with stupid idea (ad campaign how bad is in UK)  to whom the majority of people are listening for some reason

- it is so easy to misjudge when you never asked a Bulgarian (or Romanian) thinkers is there really a big threat for way of emigrants or you never visited the countries you are talking about

I'm curious why these politicians are not practising on Greek or Spanish potential emigrants....

How can the UK even consider such an action. Don't they know that the Us is planning to make everyone here citizens, not close our borders to persons that want to walk in, and give everyone here all the Government benefits.
