Not many people can maintain consciousness while pulling eight Gs, and meteorologist Grant Denyer found that out the hard way.
On Tuesday, Denyer did his weather report for the Australian morning show Sunrise from the passenger seat of a stunt plane. After getting knocked around in his seat a bit by veteran stunt pilot Matt Hall’s maneuvers, he decided to see whether he could handle eight Gs — or eight times the force of the earth’s gravity. “I want to see how long I can last at 8G,” Denyer joked before his on-air collapse, as the Huffington Post reported. “I want to know if I’m as tough as Matt Hall.” That’s when things got ugly.
“He’s passed out!” the anchor back at the station exclaimed, before calling for a cut because, well, nobody wants to see that.
The pressure also took out the morning show’s in-flight camera, which stopped working shortly after Denyer did.
Denyer told the Perth Confidential it wasn’t as bad as it looked.
“My whole body just started to feel all warm and cosy to be honest.”
