A new online-dating service is aiming to help people skip the first-date small talk with the power of Google’s Knowledge Graph. Loveflutter is connecting singles by creating a real-time graph of interests — pulled from Facebook or entered manually — and matching them with other profiles containing correlating buzz words, according to Mashable.

Interested in action flicks? Loveflutter helps you find people who list The Terminator and Die Hard as their favorite movies, giving you a little more fodder than the usual icebreakers. “Loveflutter takes the nervousness out of online dating and helps people get on their first date,” Daigo Smith, one of Loveflutter’s co-founders, told Mashable.

Powered by, which is a part of the Knowledge Graph, the site also uses Foursquare to suggest date spots similar to HowAboutWe. The new site also pairs singles based on what bars, restaurants or hangouts they may frequent rather than how close two people live. Finding someone who enjoys the same dive bar may save some time instead of finding out on a first date that the person across from you prefers bottle service.

The London-based company is offering free access to the site, but like most online-dating services, it charges users through a pay-as-you-go or unlimited monthly membership.

This is an interesting concept but most people I know have not put a full list of their interests on their Facebook page.  Moreover, although common interests are helpful, it is not predictive of a good relationship.  That's why my partners and I are launching Spritzr ( next month which is similar in that it interacts with social media but in a manner that let's singles comfortably be introduced to friends of friends.  We think this is a better way for people to meet their special someone.
