Last night marked a couple of important firsts for former President Bill Clinton: his first appearance on The Colbert Report, and his first tweet —sort of.

Clinton dictated his first-ever tweet to the late-night comedian last week during the sixth annual Clinton Global Initiative University meeting at Washington University in St. Louis, and the three-part interview was broadcast on The Colbert Report Apr. 8. The tweet — via the Twitter account @PrezBillyJeff — read, “Just spent amazing time with Colbert. Is he sane? He is cool! #cgiu”.

The 42nd President of the United States and founding chairman of the Clinton Global Initiative said he uses Facebook, but not Twitter because “I’m so sort of insecure, like what if you tweet and nobody tweets back. There’s nothing worse than a friendless tweeter, right? You’re just wandering around in cyberspace.”

During the sit-down — dubbed the “Colbert Galactic Initiative” — Clinton also joked that he pursues NGO work both because it makes him “happy” and because he is not good enough at playing golf or the saxophone to pursue those hobbies as a career. Yet he said that meeting Colbert has inspired him to add one more thing to his bucket list, next to “climbing Kilimanjaro and riding a horse across the Gobi desert in Mongolia”: “Now I want to go into outer space on one of your spaceships.”
