“Nothing fascinates male human beings more than guns and sex,” says Joerg Sprave, like a character out of some kind of crossover Doomsday PreppersmeetsMy Crazy Obsession TV show. And the jolly host of The Slingshot Channel on Youtube has combined the two to make a “Condom Applicator Slingshot Gun” in response to the Next Generation Condom contest sponsored by Bill and Melinda Gates.

Last month, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation issued a $100,000 challenge for inventors to improve on the 400-year-old prophylactic and “life-saving device” by creating a condom so appealing that it trumps the decision to not wear one.

So does this stocky German’s idea fit into some of the challenge’s guidelines?

Application of knowledge from other fields (e.g. neurobiology, vascular biology) to new strategies for improving condom desirability? Yeah, slingshot guns are totally out of left field, right?

Application of safe new materials that may preserve or enhance sensation. Probably not–Sprave laughingly acknowledges the pain that would come along with shooting and slapping latex on.

But in all seriousness, whether or not you were entertained by Sprave’s idea (or his others ones, like the Oreo-splitting slingshot), his video’s almost 3 million views sure has raised more awareness about the Gates Foundation’s  contest.
