Flanked by an emotional Vice President Biden, former U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords, and the family of a Newtown shooting victim, President Obama delivered a statement after the Senate failed to approve expanded background checks on gun sales–a bipartisan proposal that 90% of Americans support.

This congress is a disgrace, but remember: any one of those  congressman (woman) were elected by popular vote. 
So, there are right wing extremist who decline using common sense in congress because there are so many Americans who decline to use common sense instead they are choosing politics.
