“How many indie rock fans does it take to screw in a light bulb? It’s a really obscure number that you’ve probably never heard of.”

That old hipster-skewering joke is funny because it’s true: for some indie rock fans, no band can be too little-known. So when Jimmy Kimmel sent a reporter armed with a microphone and a camera to grill music fans about some of the acts at Coachella, you can bet that they had heard of all of them – even though the writers at Jimmy Kimmel Live! had made them up.

The crew from Kimmel’s popular “Lie Witness News” segment went to the Coachella Music and Arts Festival outside Los Angeles to talk to die-hard music fans about a few bands that are “so obscure that they don’t exist.” Apparently, that’s not a problem for these fans, who were enthusiastic about the fictional bands the Obesity Epidemic and Regis & the Philbins. As for Dr. Shlohmo & the G.I. Clinic? “They’re always amazing,” said one attendee. But you probably knew that already.
