Unfortunately this is true. Teaching is not an eight to five job. To engage students with a lesson is a huge production. I have yet to find a way to do it without having to stay after hours and come on weekends. Add to that the pressure of having to cover topics in a limited number of minutes per subject really takes a lot of creativity. A teacher sitting down while class is in session indicates even the teacher is not engaged. How can students be?

It would have been a lively 'teachable moment' had the teacher got up, thank the boy, and began a conversation, after all it was a World History! Bravo to this boy!

Teaching requires an enormous amount of creativity. It is not easy to take a topic and make it come alive to elicit a response and connection from children and make it meaningful.

Our colleges need to re-examine their entry requirements.

Thank you! Now, if we give good news prominence, greater than the sensationalization of crimes, perhaps EVIL will slowly slither away.
