The final sketch of the night gave Fred Armisen his time to shine and say goodbye. Though the 11-year cast member still hasn’t officially announced his departure, this sketch seemed to confirm the rumors. He appeared in character as English rocker Ian Rubbish, eventually joined onstage by some real-life musicians: Sonic Youth singer Kim Gordon, Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones, Dinosaur Jr. leader J. Mascis, and singer-songwriters Michael Penn and Aimee Mann. Also joining Armisen, of course, was Wild Flag singer Carrie Brownstein, who works as his partner on the sketch comedy series Portlandia. Armisen belted an original farewell tune, and the simple lyrics said it all: “It’s been all right, I’ve had a lovely night with you.”
