At this weekend’s Memorial Cup hockey game in Saskatoon, Canada, jazz singer Alexis Normand botched the United States national anthem so majorly that she had to pause several times, mumbling unintelligible, made-up lyrics and at some points even just humming.

But while Normand’s performance was nothing short of a disaster, the crowd deserves props for backing her up at the end to help her finish the song with perhaps a small shred of her dignity intact.

After the botched performance, Normand took to Twitter to offer an apology:
