The nation is mourning Monday’s deadly tornado that whipped across Oklahoma killing at least 24 people and injuring dozens. But some heartening news of residents discovering pets as they search through the rubble has set social media abuzz.

During a live interview with CBS News, Moore resident Barbara Garcia found her missing dog beneath the debris. Garcia explained that she rode out the storm in the bathroom of her now-decimated home, but was separated from her dog. As she’s telling her story, someone off-camera spots the dog, buried beneath the rubble. As the camera rolled, Garcia was able to lift up the debris and free the pup.

“Well I thought God just answered one prayer to let me be okay,” Garcia said, “but he answered both of them.”

Below are more images of rescue workers and locals finding furry friends amid the debris and devastation.

It is all so horrible. And to SOME  people yes all they have left are their pets.  Some people are alone without them.  It is so sad for everyone.

The large animals, most , probably didn't make it.  Too large and large makes good targets.  God help all of the people in Ok.

All creatures great and small are Gods wards.

I cant believe how stupefied everyone looks when the see the dog and do not offer to help the dog or woman. No one even thinks to check the dog for injuries or place him in a safe area?! Come on people, this is not an alien...if it was a human you'd immediately check for injuries.

OMG, I cannot believe so many people are so naive to believe this story about the dog that as found during the interview. There is something like coincidence and something like too much coincidence... In this disaster, people are hungry for a good news show and the news crew did their homework perfectly : they spotted different stories like this one, searched for any surviving dog : planted the one they found so that it could be found exactly when they did the interview with that old woman and shazam : instant world news. Great news for that old woman, nice to see a good story in this drama, but come on people : you really do not honestly believe that they got THAT lucky ???

@Elvisfofana Admittedly, I wondered about that. But I'm choosing to believe it based on the old woman. A product of the ever pragmatic greatest generation, her complete lack of self-pity while retaining her graciousness made it all add up for me.

@JohnDooms @Elvisfofana : that is exactly the reason why not a lot of people ask themselves questions about this movie : they "choose to believe it", because we need a happy story to help us cope with this drama.
