Man Sues Apple for His Porn Addiction

The Tennessee lawyer demands new filter to block indecent content

When in doubt, blame technology. A Tennessee man is suing Apple for enabling him to access pornography, alleging that the tech giant supports pornography and “explicit sexual content which has led to the proliferation of arousal addiction,” according to his 50-page complaint.

Nashville lawyer Chris Sevier argues that Apple should install a content filter in its browsers to block all internet porn, CNET reports. His “reasonable policy” would only allow users 18 years of age or older to access inappropriate content if they contact Apple and sign a form acknowledging the perils of porn. Only then would a user receive a code to access the free interwebs.

Sevier also faults Apple for his failed marriage, which he says caused him to “experience emotional distress to the point of hospitalization.” Placing blame on Apple for not warning him of the dangers of pornography, Sevier explains he’s now saddled with a lifelong porn addiction. And this is all Apple’s fault, of course.

“Apple knew or should have know [sic] that the impact of such a condition could destroy the plaintiff’s family, quality of life, income producing capability, and so forth,” he said in his complaint. “Apple should see this lawsuit as a warning sign of the class action lawsuits to follow in the event Apple elects to resist the Plaintiff’s reasonable request.”

No word on Apple’s response, but we’re sure that coming up with a response is next on the list following the landmark ebook price-fixing suit it just lost.

Possibly the most ridiculous part (and there are so many to choose from) is that Apple is actually fairly conservative and is probably more well known as a content censor than an excessively liberal company.

I used to wonder how they could find a lawyer for cases like this... But I have a feeling that these aren't the types of cases where the lawyer only gets paid if they win. Pretty sure they're asking for money up front & then it's like a legal vacation. The case is built off absolutely nothing in reality so it has to be super easy to prepare to lose.

My guess is Apple is not responding because they are too busy laughing their asses off. I believe a lot of people would feel that filter violates their rights and would lead to another lawsuit. This guy is unbelievable and is just looking to blame someone else. oh and btw porn addiction is not life long you idiots.

I shall follow this lawsuit quite closely; the potential for a larger class action suit is tremendous and I have my stamps and envelopes ready.. LOL !  If this thing flies, I think a lawsuit against biology textbooks and every catalog publisher on earth is next for addicting me to women.

This man should sue his parents for having created him. That might be justified given

the outcome of their intercourse.

this nutcase is demanding 75K  - wow ... it says because of mac and its ability to connect to internet he was exposed to porn. I am not sure if he will use windows or linux he can avoid seeing porn.  If you are addicted to porn you will always be.

Now apple should say that if this person sees porn even for a minute he will be fined a million .. if he is able to not see porn for 2 years he will then be able to sue .. before that he has to return the mac to apple and promise never to buy an apple product.

I take it pornography is ONLY accessible through Macs. Hence Apple is responsible for the success of porn.

Oh here we go again playing the blame game Geez I just wish people would take responsibility for their own actions instead they blame someone else for their mistakes. Advice GROW THE HELL UP. BE A MAN

When this guy loses the suit he should also have to pay all of apples legal fees for the case (I doubt apple hires cheap lawyers) maybe that will teach people to not sue for such dumb reasons.

Just think of the money I could make...suing all the producers of carbohydrate foods because they didn't warn me of the dangers of STUFFING MY FACE!

I hope Nashville lawyer Chris Sevier is well versed in Rule 11 sanctions, 'cause it sounds like he and his client may be facing some in the not too distant future.

"In other news, God created oxygen billionsand billions of years ago that allowed this man to spout such drivel that could affect millions of computing devices' users. Humanity starts worldwide class action suit against Yahweh and co. for the creation of the concept of stupidity. Politicians side with the almighty due to possible collateral damage".

That price-fixing claim is getting stale.   We know by now that Amazon was underselling the market by losing money on every eBook sale, so they could promote their piece of crap Kindle.

Apple negotiates with the publishers and agrees essentially that THEY won't undersell the market, and some dingbat Judge calls that "collusion".

I blame Victoria's Secret for my addiction to women wearing sexy lingerie. How do I sue?

If he doesn't lose this case, shame on our justice system.

@Think_again Its likely that his computer came with porn sites as favorites and he doesnt know that there is an address bar where you can type other sites in the world.

@Bug72 Why take personal responsibility when you can sue someone else? To be fair though, most of these cases get thrown out of court unless Apple all of the sudden got rid of their good lawyers.

@Aritul -- I hope he wins, just so that we can see how absurd our system really is....
