One of the pages from the list is displayed on the auction website.

One of the four remaining copies of Schindler’s list has gone up for auction on eBay. The 14-page list, which is typed on onion-skin paper and is dated April 18, 1945, contains the names of 801 Jewish men who the German industrialist Oskar Schindler helped to avoid almost certain death in Hitler’s concentration camps during World War II. The opening bid is $3 million.

Schindler originally collated over 1,200 names on seven different lists during the war. This list is one of four original copies that survived the war and is believed to have belonged to the family of Schindler’s accountant, Itzhak Stern. It is the only version of the list that has remained in private possession; the rest are in museums in Israel and the United States.

Oskar Schindler, a Nazi, is credited with saving the lives of approximately 1,200 Jews by employing them to work at his factories during the Holocaust. His accomplishments received global recognition when the 1993 film Schindler’s List, starring Liam Neeson, won seven Academy Awards.

The list’s historic status hasn’t stopped it from being sold like anything else on eBay. Though the auction currently has no bids, Zimet isn’t worried, according to Agence France-Presse. “I don’t anticipate any bidders until the last day — or probably the last five or 10 minutes.”
