We’re used to seeing adorable pictures of Bo, the First Dog, all over the White House’s Twitter feed – and now on Instagram. But today’s Bo photo was no ordinary Bo photo. In fact, it had some edge.

“Bo, stop trying to make fetch happen” is a reference to Mean Girls (2004), a comedy about the popular girls who dominate high school, starring Lindsay Lohan. During the winter talent show, cranky clique leader Regina George (Rachel McAdams) shuts down fellow alpha female Gretchen Wieners (Lacey Chabert), who had been trying to make ‘fetch’ (meaning cool or chic) her catchphrase: “Stop trying to make ‘fetch’ happen. It isn’t going to happen!” Here’s how the scene plays out in the film:

But thankfully, Bo Obama isn’t actually sitting in the Oval Office waiting for a playmate. He has been airlifted to Martha’s Vineyard, where the First Family is vacationing for the week at a private home.
