Texas teen Sam Horowitz has set the bar for bar (and bat) mitzvah entrances. The 13-year-old’s glitzy interpretation of Christina Aguilera’s “Show Me How You Burlesque” made internet waves this week when a Jewish parenting website posted footage of the teen’s performance at Dallas’s Omni Hotel, which was shot last year. Emerging from beneath an oversized white lampshade that descended on stage, Horowitz and his gaggle of backup dancers dazzled his guests with their moves. The act, replete with a light show and oversized letter stage props spelling “Sam,” prompted viral praise and criticism for the glitzy pomp, but this wasn’t Horowitz’s first production. Adding to the already extravagant fête, the teen and his friends covered last year’s hit song, “Call Me Maybe” in an all-out music video. Though Horowitz is receiving criticism for his creative frivolity, he’s not the first internet star to conquer choreographed numbers. Let’s just call this an updated version of another viral bar mitzvah sensation.
