Gasoline is one of the ingredients in a flesh-eating drug, Krokodil

A flesh-eating drug called Krokodil, because it makes user’s skin scaly and green before it rots away, has arrived on American soil. The Banner Poison Control center in Arizona has reported the first two users of the drug — which has been available in Russia for more than a decade — here in the U.S.

Krokodil most closely resembles morphine or heroin and is injected into the veins. It is made of codeine, a painkiller often used in cough syrup, and a mix of other materials including gasoline, paint thinner, and alcohol. It has become popular in Russia, where it was first reported in 2002, because it is cheap–it can cost 20 times less than heroin according to Gawker–and can be made easily at home.

“As far as I know, these are the first cases in the United States that are reported,” Dr. Frank LoVechhio, co-medical director at Banner Good Samaritan Poison and Drug Information Center in Arizona, told CBS 5. “So we’re extremely frightened.” The average life span of a Krokodil user is two to three years, according to a 2011 TIME investigation of the drug’s prevalence in Russia.

When it is injected, the drug rots the skin by rupturing blood vessels, causing the tissue to die. As a result, the skin hardens and rots, sometimes even falling off to expose the bone.  “These people are the ultimate in self-destructive drug addiction,” Dr. Ellen Marmur, chief of dermatological and cosmetic surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City told Fox News, “Once you are an addict at this level, any rational thinking doesn’t apply.”

I've always believed the war on drugs is a huge waste and horrible failure. You can't force people into sobriety who don't want to be sober, which is how it's come to drugs like this. Take away one thing and there will always be something else and that something else is often exponentially more dangerous than whatever it was that they originally banned.

People are going to use drugs. Like it or not, this is a steady market. We should legalize it and take away a major money source from gangsters. Addicts would also be much better off with pure, lab grade drugs rather than some junk made in someone's basement.

The only reason this stuff exists is because of the 'war on drugs'.  Known as prohibition in an earlier age, the same type of thing plagued people then.

Krokodil is the merely the rot gut of our time.

The Most Horrifying Drug in the World Has Come to the U.S.

Its called Barrack Hussein Obama II.   .... It is a mind-altering drug, taken multiple times daily through the ingestion of empirical dictates delivered directly into the brain and stored in the users subconscious. It leaves the user completely void of intelligent thought wanting only to be pacified with veg generalities of reality and wishful thoughts of unruliest expectations of forced social equality.

 This drug has been on the market for over five years now and has taken a severe toll on our youth and those sometimes referred to as the undereducated voter in society. Unfortunately we cannot blame the inception of this hanis drug on anyone but ourselves because it was created, street tested, manufactured and primarily distributed for individual consumption, here in the United States. In some areas it has become the favorite drug of choice. The primary example of this can be seen in its daily use where upon it is repeatedly ingested by the media, then to be spun out unsuspecting observers. Though it is now suspected that many of these unsuspecting observers are in reality hard-core users in dire need of this pathogen to maintain their suppression of their own personal opinions.

 When ingested the drug, the drug rots the mind by rupturing sensibility, causing the individuals ability to perceive reality to die. As a result, the mind hardens and rots, sometimes even projecting out of the person’s mouth into a zone of explosive vulgar self-affirmatives thereby exposing that persons direct ties to the drug source.  ”These people are the "ultimate" in self-destructive drug addiction,” “Once they are an addict at this level, any rational thinking doesn’t apply.”

Let the rot...literally......if they are stupid enough to do this knowing the risks, then who cares? I say make laws, anyone found selling this to kids should be executed.

it's not that new. and it is not that destructive. Thousands [in this country anyway] seem to enjoy it. Take propaganda with caution. Check the science not the hype. And even if it were so dastardly another good reason to legalise the lot. For ever.

Don't worry, we'll have plenty of Americans using this recreational drug - maybe it'll prove to be a solution to our overpopulation problem

After that description, I encourage anyone dumb enough to go throw with using to do so... and in large quantities. We've been needing to restore a bit of Darwin's principles to the human race for quite some time now.

@therealdude the so-called war-on-drugs is not about prevention of drug use. it is about creating departments with billion dollar budgets to employ bureaucrats and henchmen who would otherwise be unemployable to feed the multi-billion dollar prison slave labor industry. If drugs were legalized and taxed, crime would go down significantly.

@AnthonyLamandre Do your research. It wasn't started here. Also your rambling doesnt make much sense. This drug was made supposedly to eradicate who? Lmao. It started in Russia.

@idotsaredimeadozen

There's a difference between someone who suffers at the hand of someone else and someone who shoots up heroin mixed with gasoline.

Since this concept is beyond your comprehension level, let me pose something more familiar to you.   If someone makes fun of you for being blind, I have the utmost sympathy.  If you make yourself blind by stabbing your eyes out with a fork and then blame the Easter Bunny... not so much.

Sounds like you are misinformed as well since you think this drug came about here in the US back in the 30s. Desomorphine was patented in 1932 in the US as a hopeful alternative to morphine (which it ended up not being due to its high addiction rate and potency) but this drug, krokodil, was not. This new drug is a pseudo-desomorphine that is cooked using volatile ingredients and its the impurities from the process that cause the damage of krokodil. Educate yourself before climbing up on your soap box.

@FrankBlank @kc.koellein I'm quite confident in my reference. I even took some time to reflect and review before replying. So, DO enlighten me. "Babbling" is such a strong word. Society has built constructs which have been resisting natural selection for several generations now...

@NW_Papabear
Here's your education, now you can wash your mouth out with my soapbox:

Desomorphine (dihydrodesoxymorphinePermonid, street name krokodil) is an opioid first patented in 1932 in the United States that is a derivative of morphine, where the 6-hydroxyl group and the 7,8 double bond have been reduced.

The idea of the drug was to get as close chemically to desomorphine as possible. They succeeded. You may now click my original link and read something before you try to attempt to correct somebody that is on a higher soapbox than yours.

@kc.koellein @FrankBlank I think the point Frank was trying to make is you are insinuating a "need" to return the supremacy of an inefficient, time consuming dumb and amoral process with no foresight and limitless cruelty.. Natural selection selects for the survival of genes and NOTHING else. Rape, tribalism, racism, psychopathy and irrational hatred in general are all products of those glorious Darwinian principles you are so eager to return to society.
