There are 17,795 people in Washington, D.C. who win the lottery every day.

Too bad they can’t collect on their good fortune, thanks to Congress. The D.C. Lottery and Charitable Games Control Board announced as of Saturday, no winning tickets can be compensated until Congress can appropriate the funds, the Washington City Paper reports. Thanks to the government shutdown, that’s not happening anytime soon.

Tickets can still be purchased and winners should sign the back of the ticket and keep it safe until everyone makes up on Capitol Hill.
