Child protective services have taken into custody two-year-old twin girls who were found naked and locked in a bedroom in Liberty County, Texas. The officers had come to the girls’ house to check on their mother, who has been awaiting trial on human trafficking charges, and discovered the children when they heard scratching at a door.
It happened in Texas. Where is the surprise? I lived there and know first hand that this is normal and accepted behavior. Lock the kids in the bedroom while cooking meth, drinking, or blowing your brother/uncle (same person).
This is terrible, but I know a couple that locks there young boys in the bedroom so they can game online or watch TV undisturbed. Child Protective Services was called but now they have a rule that before they open the door for them one goes and opens the door for the kids.
It's terrible that this happened. It's terrible that this mother possibly was involved in human trafficking. It's terrible that these two girls were left alone in a room. But I'm not surprised. Yes, she isn't a good mother. My guess is, if she is on TANF (welfare), that she has a work requirement. If she is on any assistance, that work requirement is a minimum of 20 - 30 hours per week, regardless of the age of the children. There is also no available childcare. So, while we should be upset with the circumstances, and with the Mother - shouldn't we also be upset with ourselves and with our policy makers for making it difficult for women to get an abortion, and then forcing them to leave their children at home while they work to get the tiniest amount of aid - thus starting the circle of poverty ALL over again, and again, and again?
The reality is - this is happening everyday in America. People have children, and they have no family support in raising them, and they can't get a decent paying job without a good education. Yet, we put little money into our schools, and the safety net almost requires child neglect for the 3 - 5 year lifetime limit that we allow - Neglect for which we remove the kids. And foster care is more expensive than the very small amount given for welfare. It's messed up. But instead of fixing it, it is easier to just be angry at one situation at a time, feel our righteous indignation, and never once think about fixing the system that punishes people for being poor - AND creates more and more poverty.
It's all right to be angry with this mother - even if we don't know everything. But I would be just as angry at politicians who have framed being poor as a moral failing of the poor, instead of a horrible result of the system - which Can be fixed.
Every time I read stories of children abused I can barely cope with it. HOW HOW HOW can people in any way shape or form hurt an innocent child by way of neglect or any other method? HOW? Depresses the hell out of me.
This is unbelievable. How could ANYONE leave a child
alone, especially THESE girls so young.
While I can see why they had to take the children away - at the same
time it is VERY damaging to small children to be taken from their parents
both mom AND dad.
I have a 25 page psych report that proves that. Wanna copy?
@DamnirSueside Wtf is wrong with people. WHat is wrong with YOU that you haven't reported them? Those poor kids.
@JamesVanDoren There is such a thing as giving the kids up for adoption so that they can live a better life. That doesn't cost a dime.
The reality is, if you can't take care of your kids, DON'T HAVE ANY. STOP making excuses for NEGLIGENCE.
@jimmyjimmyjimmy111 i feel the same way jimmy and i use to see it first hand as a veteran cop of 30 years in a major city. i never got use to it. how about this coward that beat the NFl players son to death Adrian peterson's son. I sick is that man to beat 2 year old to death.
@msmith6791 I know that it is damaging for children to be taken from their parents. Did you hear the part where it said the mother is awaiting a trial in a human trafficking case.
These children are young enough that if they are adopted over time they will adjust I believe. No one deserves to be abused or neglected especially children and animals.
Was the sister arrested? She should have been, she was contributing to this abuse. This is unfathomable that someone could be so cruel as to hurt a child. makes me ill
@msmith6791 You are a moron, this is without a doubt an unfit mother ,trailer trash. Those kid will be much better off without a mother like that. No food no clothes, no warmth and comfort. Take that 25 page study and shove up your rectum you bleeding heart liberal ass.
@msmith6791 Their mom is under investigation for human trafficking. If those charges are true- how do you THINK their lives will turn out with her? Trust me, being taken from your mom is not nearly as damaging as what could lie ahead; 25 page thesis or not!
@Openminded1 @msmith6791 Although I agree with most of what you said, I do take issue with your comment about msmith6791 being a bleeding heart liberal. This has nothing to do with politics. I am a liberal and this woman should never be allowed to see those children again or ever be released from prison. Whether she is found guilty of trafficking or not. She should be charged and sentenced harshly for treating her children so abhorrently.
@CharleyCartee @Openminded1 @msmith6791 Under most circumstances,But not in this case, these children will be better off in the hands of someone who will love them and nourish them in way children deserve.
@JillAlisonMason @Openminded1 @msmith6791 Jill bleeding heart liberal is more then about politics it is a way of life and thinking in general. You maybe a liberal in politics JIll but you are no liberal in everything you say and do. You my dear are more of the moderate type using common sense over just following the status quo.
