Never Drink Alone Again Because Now There’s Wine for Cats

You never have to drink alone again, because now you can drink with your cats. At least in Japan you can, because a Japanese company called B&H Lifes has begun selling wine made specifically for cats.

This special feline libation is called “Nyan Nyan Nouveau.” As Kotaku reports, “nyan nyan” is the Japanese equivalent of “meow meow.” (Oh hey, remember Nyan Cat?) This cat wine doesn’t really contain any alcohol, but it does contain juice made from Cabernet grapes, along with catnip. So just accept it. It’s wine. For cats.

Nyan Nyan Nouveau costs 399 yen (or $4) for a bottle, and the company is only producing a thousand of them, so you should probably act fast.

There is a very popular article  written by some veterinarian being duplicated all over the internet, about how extremely dangerous alcohol is for cats and dogs. Any questioning of that opinion would seem to be met with an bipolar manic response, saying that even tiny amounts need to be detoxed like they do at their clinic.

Is that article merely anecdotal opinion rather than evidenced by scientific data? Or a commercial need to justify the service provided by their clinic?

We know that little children are precautioned against alcohol yet their medicines may contain alcohol.

We know that people with huge dogs who had regular beer, that lived to normal old age.

So whoever you are, dear manic veterinarian, please present us your scientific studies replete with size of animal vs alcohol toxicity levels.

Try grape Gatorade instead, add some catnip and Valerian root.

I read that grapes are toxic to cats, too. Japanese are smart. I wonder why they made this. No, don't give this to cats. Is there a way to let the manufacturer know this?

PLEASE DON'T GIVE THIS TO YOUR CAT(OR DOG)! CAN CAUSE RENAL FAILURE!

From what I've read, grapes are definitely toxic to dogs and potentially toxic to cats (not enough data). I wouldn't want to risk it!

Like cats needed a reason to whine about not having wine? Only ign'nt pet owners would fall for this ruse. Would they have to be Siamese cats? Oh, who cares. The whole report leaves me cat-atonic. I give my cats catnip without the grape juice, and seems to work just fine.

The cats seem overfed too :(

Isnt it grape seed rather than grape juice itself that is toxic.. for both cats and dogs?

@LawRahh1509 Use grape Gatorade instead of juice. Electrolytes and some catnit, maybe a little Valerian root...heqlthy cat wine.

@supersat Actually, they aren't! I've been to this cat cafe in Osaka. These cats are totally pampered but they're definitely not overfed. They seem kind of fat because their fur is, like...styled. When I pet the cats, I couldn't believe it -- it was like their fur had gotten blow-dryed and puffed out. Crazy. Also, some of the cats are massive, as big as medium-sized dogs.
