It turns out sometimes it does matter who you leave off the guest list.

As U.K. couple Annwen and Jonathan Bell blissfully celebrated their marriage in front of 200 guests, an uninvited family member used their opportunity in the spotlight to ransack their home, the Telegraph reports.

The 30-year-old bride and groom, 34, were interrupted by a police officer while dancing at their reception to learn that distant family member Ceri Davies, 26, had been caught during a break-in at their home. Davies admitted to breaking in and smashing the happy couple’s television, destroying their carpet and slashing leather furniture, but did not cite the reasons behind his damage.

The Bells attribute the vandalism to a recent family quarrel, which involved Annwen Bell’s father leaving his marriage for Davies’ mother, Jill Davies. The  vandal was convicted and sentenced to three years and four months in the Swansea Crown court.

Despite the devastating blow to the hallmark moment, the couple carried on with the fete, refusing to let a fit of outrage ruin the celebration of eternal love.
