Boogie Butts, the chocolate labrador who won a medal for finishing a half marathon in Evansville, Ind., a week ago, died of a heart attack, the Associated Press reports via the Evansville Courier & Press. He was 10 years old, and his owner Jerry Butts announced his pet’s passing on Facebook.
After running away the night before, the 100-pound pup bolted into the race and ran 13 of the 13.1-mile course in a solid 2 hours and 15 minutes, out-performing 1,128 other participants. The news went viral, and his owner later retrieved Boogie at a shelter and made an appointment for the dog to be neutered.
As he wrote on his Facebook page, “Boogie was a rascal and he went out the way he wanted, by being a little mischievous and not being too shy to soak up the glory.”
