When you go to pick up Justin Bieber’s latest single, “Hold Tight,” make sure you don’t accidentally pick up a track by Toby Bieber. That’s what friends of Toby Sheldon call him after the the LA-based songwriter spent the past five years and nearly $100,000 on plastic surgery in the hopes of resembling his idol.
The 33-year old grownup idolizes the Canadian crooner to such an extent that he underwent multiple plastic surgeries, injections and hair transplants in order “to look like Justin,” according to Complex. “Once Justin shot to fame his face was everywhere,” Sheldon told the Daily Mail, “and I all I kept thinking when I saw his picture was, ‘I want to look like him.'” To achieve Bieber’s “youthful” look, Sheldon got many, many costly procedures including Botox and Aquamid injections, a chin reduction and eyelid surgery.
Sheldon’s most recent operation was a so-called “smile surgery,” which was done in three parts and was meant to make Sheldon’s smile look just like Bieber’s, according to multiple reports. That one surgery reportedly set Sheldon back over $15,000 and the aspiring songwriter has spent his entire life savings on his dream to look like Bieber.
In addition to the financial cost of the surgery, the physical toll has also been high. “My smile surgery took more than a month to recover from,” Sheldon recalled to the British tabloid Closer. “And, after my eyelid surgery, I couldn’t open my eyes for a week.”
For his part, though, Sheldon seems to believe it was money well spent. “My friends shower me with compliments,” he told British tabloid, Closer. “They even call me Toby Bieber.” However, the songwriter apparently cites a fear of aging, and not Bieber fever for his decisions to undergo surgery.
