Every November, hundreds of thousands of people set out to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days. The National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) mantra essentially is: It doesn’t have to be pretty, but it does have to be on paper.

While the task sounds pretty challenging (to put it mildly),  a whopping 341,375 participated and 38,438 people completed the task last year.

We have a slightly less ambitious assignment to dole out. To get the creative ball rolling, we’re asking readers to tweet an awesome first sentence to #TIMENaNo. Highbrow, lowbrow, good, bad and ugly.

We’ll feature the best ones next week.

Happy writing.

Hmmmm...

"SH*T!!" Might be an appropriate start.

Author: It is a 50,000 WORD novel not a 50,000 PAGE novel.

Negligent Homicide.  I know what is going to kill me, and how, but I don’t know who did it, or when I'll die.

Sent on to two friends who are up to the challenge more than I am.  If they were in a generous mood, they could write one for me.  Damn, that would defeat the purpose I guess.
