Johnny Depp returns yet again as Captain Jack Sparrow in "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides"
While some may consider Johnny Depp a tasty morsel, he has never looked more delicious than in the nearly and slightly terrifying life-size cake crafted by a baker in England.
The cake version of the actor stands 5.5 feet tall and was made by Lara Clarke, an amateur baker, who was looking for a way to wow the judges at the Cake International competition in Birmingham. She started baking two years ago after watching YouTube tutorials and was ready to take her hobby up a notch. “One of my friends was on the phone and said I should enter Cake International. At the time I was watching Pirates of the Caribbean,” Clarke told the BBC. “I was watching Jack Sparrow, played by Johnny Depp, and I thought he would make the perfect cake.”
She went all out to make the cake for the competition, telling the BBC, that it took her 90 hours to make the replica, which she started constructing in September. She made the cake version of the Edward Scissorhands and Dark Shadows actor out of crisped rice cereal and marshmallows, with PVC pipes and stainless steel supports. Depps’s trademark smoldering eyes and Captain Jack facial hair were made from royal icing, fondant icing and edible paint.
While Clarke had never attempted anything like a sponge-cake based life-size representation of an actor before, she had baked a cake replica of her mother-in-law. If she could please that audience, the Cake International judges will surely be easier to impress.
