This New Backstreet Boys Video Probably Caused an International Hair Gel Shortage

Because Nick Carter used it all.

Backstreet’s back. Alright!

Yup, the Backstreet Boys have released a new video for their single “Show ‘Em (What You’re Made Of)” from their latest album, In a World Like This. The band posted the video on Facebook Tuesday, writing, “This song is very personal and special to us. We hope you love it as much as we do.”

And indeed, there’s just so much to love here, beginning with Kevin’s spirited fist pump 29 seconds in, or his soul-penetrating Blue Steel later on. Then, of course, there’s just all the wistful glances and meaningful points and gestures toward the camera. This video is high-intensity and high-drama, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

But there’s also a lot to be concerned about. First, the hair gel thing. Seriously. Nick Carter appears to have used up the world’s entire supply. Save some for everyone else, Nick. Then there is the issue of the shirts — or rather, the lack thereof. Why are Nick, Brian and Howie fully clothed while A.J. and Brian bare their chests? Is this an exercise in exploitation or did those two just choose to go topless?

But most pressing: this video includes zero — zero! — takes of more than one Backstreet Boy at the same time. Did they all record their parts separately because they secretly hate each other now? Is this whole happy reunion a total ruse? Are the Boys secretly feuding, Oasis-style?

For now, let’s push those concerns aside and revel in this blissful 1990s nostalgia.
