Turns Out Michelle Obama Loves Selfies, Too

Don't be fooled by the disapproving look you saw

Much of the chatter about the selfie President Barack Obama took with fellow world leaders Tuesday has focused on Michelle Obama’s disapproving look. But the photographer who snapped the photo says she was just as game for the fun as the president, British Prime Minister David Cameron and Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning Schmidt.

Photographer Roberto Schmidt writes on AFP:

I later read on social media that Michelle Obama seemed to be rather peeved on seeing the Danish prime minister take the picture. But photos can lie. In reality, just a few seconds earlier the first lady was herself joking with those around her, Cameron and Schmidt included. Her stern look was captured by chance.

And Schmidt is no fan of all the critics saying it was inappropriate for Obama and Co. to go all selfie on a solemn occasion like Nelson Mandela’s memorial.

It was interesting to see politicians in a human light because usually when we see them it is in such a controlled environment. Maybe this would not be such an issue if we, as the press, would have more access to dignitaries and be able to show they are human as the rest of us.

I confess too that it makes me a little sad we are so obsessed with day-to-day trivialities, instead of things of true importance.

Terribly inappropriate behavior for a president - any president - at a formal and solemn occasion. And if I hear one more excuse that it wasn't a funeral, I'll hurl. Presidents representing their countries at any formal event, happy or solemn, should not be taking selfies. There are photographers covering the event. The president even has his own round the clock photographer that could have snapped a commemorative picture of the three of them if they so wished.

There's no excusing or spinning the fact that President Obama behaved poorly. It's even worse that he's getting away with his tacky behavior while his wife who carried herself properly and with dignity, is being ripped apart, denigrated and taking the fall for her husband's inability to comport himself like a respectable, married Head of State at a formal event. Look around, there were no other Heads of State misbehaving. Especially not those sitting with their wives. They all carried themselves well and treated their wives with respect and dignity, cognizant of the fact that all eyes were on them. But not President Obama. Pathetic.

lol It's not selfies she has a problem with, it's who her husband takes them with. That white bitch putting the moves on her man! Hilarious.

There is no problem. It was the spirit of Mandela. World friendship.I understand about formal ceremonies. But somehow I feel it was the spirit of Mandela. Obviously that is as seen from a distance and from pictures. And people could be tired after traveling so long distances.

Zero respect for Mandela. Couldn't they put it off for just another couple of hours? There are 3 selfies in this pic. Like badly behaving children who need their spoilt little butts whopped.

And the other two pictures?
It's amazing how threats from the White House can make someone come out with admissions like this, huh.
He just happened to catch the FLOTUS 3 different times with the "angry black woman" look on her face, one of which she had switched places with the President and was giving the "cold shoulder" body language to the Danish Prime Minister.
