Have you ever thought fast food drive-thrus just aren’t fast enough? Someone has figured out a way to speed up the whole process.
A new service called iDriveThru allows customers to make hands-free payments using the same technology that powers the electronic toll-collecting system E-ZPass, Springwise reports.
Currently iDriveThru is available only at five Wendy’s locations, all in Staten Island.
It’s not currently affiliated with the Metropolitan Transport Authority or any other agencies, but the MTA tested out a similar system in 2001 at two Long Island McDonald’s locations, with 15 cents of every E-ZPass transaction going directly to the MTA. The project died out when people began stealing E-ZPasses to buy food. If tolling authorities did choose to participate with iDriveThru, they could make up to $150,000 a year off transaction fees, according to the New York Post.
No word yet on whether this system will spread past Staten Island, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed.
