Filmmaker Casey Neistat has released an approximately six-and-a-half minute YouTube video today explaining that he was hired to make a promotional video for the upcoming Ben Stiller movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, but ended up using his budget to fly to the Philippines and help the victims of Typhoon Haiyan.

I first saw this story IN January, I thought to myself what an amazing person you must be to do such a thing. I have a loved one in CEbu who thankfully was not injured, but yet still his family along with cousins have suffered something just tragic after the storm. Some of his family was in Tacloban at the time of the Typhoon

I wanted to go there and help just as you did, but I can't even afford to buy a plane ticket right now to visit my loved ones as I have fallen on some really difficult times financially. ALthough I am trying so hard to turn that around. I left the most special person I hold in my heart so dearly alone without me to go through all he has had to , because of this storm. I feel I let him down and it hurts everyday.

I am so grateful for you and others like you that found it in your HEART to help these wonderful people (Filipino's are truly some of the nicest people I have ever met, some of the poorest people in the world, yet so loving and thankful for everything they have) .

The job is not done yet, there are still hundreds of thousands of people displaced, a high percentage of them living in tent cities with little hope of having a home again. They still need out help.

IF I could fly there and just be able to have enough money to pay my basic needs living expenses (food, water, shelter) I would stay there and help these people and the man I plan to marry some day as long as I needed too; To make sure I had done everything within my power to help these people.

I teach ENglish here in the States and I think that would be a wonderful thing to bring to these poor children that are now out of school , working to bring in any money for food rather than being in school

I hope you have the opportunity to continue doing this type of humanitarian work again in the future. I hope that I can do the same as you have soon as well. Maybe someone will help me get to my loved one, bring my knowledge and skills and do my part to help these people who will need help for many years to come before they have even close to their normal lives back. ( remember they were mostly  poor to begin with, so a roof over their heads, education, food, water is all they want)

 It's all I need, it;s all I should desire.

CASEY YOU ARE AWESOME AND A TRUE HUMANITARIAN.

YOU ARE AN INSPIRATION TO ME :)

Just wonderful generous act ,Casey ! You'll  be remembered and you're now adopted son of Filipinos. Next time you're in Cebu , let's know and we'll show our gratitude. Often  shop at S & R like our COSTCO here. Will  watch and encourage others to see the movie. Am in San Diego on vacation but more time spent on relief effort,  gathering and sending carpentry hand tools to send over there.   On my  return will renew my membership  with S & R.   God Bless you and others.
