Delta Airlines Is Very Sorry It Generated a Confirmation Code That Read “H8GAYS”

The airline says it was an honest, computer-generated error.

H8GAYS.

That’s the confirmation code a Delta Airlines customer saw on his boarding pass earlier this month. Naturally, he was pretty shocked.

“At first I didn’t think I read it right,” Jeff White, a student at the University of West Florida, tells the Washington Post. “I was worried that another customer might think I somehow picked that code. If I were a gay male, I might have thought that a Delta worker purposely gave me that code, and that would have made me extremely uncomfortable.”

Delta has apologized for any “concern or misunderstanding” and explained that the codes are always computer-generated completely random. A Delta rep tells the Post that the airline will make every effort to prevent a similar combination of letters and numbers in the future.

So yes, this was probably just an honest, computer-generated error. But as White points out, it’s a bit surprising that Delta didn’t block this particular combination as a possibility. “I’m sure they removed many four-letter words that would be seen as offensive,” he tells the Post. “I’m surprised that ‘gays’ and ‘H8’ weren’t blocked as well.”

If anything, perhaps airlines should begin deliberately generating more positive codes to please their customers. Who wouldn’t enjoy looking down at a boarding pass and seeing URAQT or LUV4CATZ?

Can people think of anything else they would like to piss and moan about?! Someone needs to push the reboot button on this world.

Wow... Seriously!?!? I mean.... really!?!? Is this what the world has come to?! Is this the direction we are headed in?? Really Jeff White, at first you didn't think you read it right? Then what happened? Then you read it right and nearly fainted?

Wait.... then you were worried that another customer might think you purposely picked that code? Really?? You really worried that that would happen? Like by chance, a gay man next to you says, "Pardon me, may I please see confirmation co....oh... oh my God!!!!!!"

Then... on top of all that.... you imagined yourself as a gay man and even imagined that a Delta employee would have purposely given you that code for being gay (because not only could that person tell that you're gay, but he/she is also a master computer programmer and has nothing better to do).

Oh the humanity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't even begin to imagine what else this generation is capable of complaining about. Somebody call whine one one and ask for a waaaaaaaambulance!

Seriously? There are so, so many offensive or undesirable combinations of letters out there, it'd be impossible for someone to think of them all. They've probably already tried to filter out as much as they can, without thinking of this one.

That said, some encoding schemes take out vowels, to decrease the likelihood of spelling out a word accidentally, offensive or otherwise. It wouldn't stop every accidental offensive code, but it would've stopped this one.

when you cannot laugh about things, things are really bad with you…

Really?? if he were a gay man he would have thought…., did not really get that… ???

And DELTA, why would you apologise for a computer generated number and letter sequence?

Not like it said : I8DICK.. though, who knows….

@beckeristNah..  Time used to be all about serious world news, but this is just part of the crap that they put on their website now.   Sort of like the "Most Popular" that I see off to the side here:  Man raps about his vasectomy in viral Christmas card video.

WTH, Time?
