Watch a Busload of People Take Down an Armed Robber

Stay away from the iPhone.

It’s a commuter’s worst nightmare. One minute you’re sitting on the bus, head down at your iPhone — let’s face it, you’re playing Candy Crush — and the next there’s this gun in your face and a dude is trying to take all your stuff.

This security footage shows an attempted robbery that occurred on a Seattle bus three days before Thanksgiving when the iPhone playing man decided to take down the armed robber rather than surrender his stuff. “First thing he did was grab the arm holding the revolver and managed to get his finger in (the trigger hole),” a witness told West Seattle blog. “We were sitting on (the armed man) trying to restrain him.”

Watch the passengers successfully wrestle the thief to the ground.

It is hard to fight impulse - his impulse was to grab the gun arm.  You can tell that there was zero hesitation.  That is not a bad thing in this case as no one was hurt.  It is true there are way better methods for disarming a gun from a lose 90 degree angle one-handed grip... he just obviously didn't know it.  There was however, certainly no time to google it with the gun in his face.

That's a really stupid way to grab that gun. He just kept it pointed at himself the entire time. He should have forced the arm up and torqued the wrist while punching the man with the other hand. And do none of these men know how to subdue? Why are they sitting on him when they could have just put him in an arm lock and broke his arm or choked him out until he went to sleep?

What if after grabbing his arm the gun went off and hit the little girl behind you?  Give the dude your stuff instead of risking everyone's life.

@DanielMurphyAt the point of your instincts kicking in like that there is no philosophizing on what the best approach is, at that point it is either fight or flight. I was in a few similar situations here in South Africa and did exactly opposite of what I thought I would do in that situation. It is anyways a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation, some robbers will shoot despite you being submissive to them. You are not dealing with logical individuals, I've seen people being tortured to death here for no reason. I would not trust a criminal to not shoot me if I am submissive to him.
