Nun Gives Birth, Says She Had No Idea She Was Pregnant

And then, naturally, names the baby after Pope Francis

Fans of Discovery Health’s “I Didn’t Know I Was Pregnant” will love this: a Salvadoran nun gave birth in Italy this week, claiming she had absolutely no idea she was pregnant.

She said she was in her convent in Campomoro when she felt stomach cramps and was rushed to a hospital in the nearby city of Rieti, AFP reports. She ended up giving birth to a boy.

Italian news agency ANSA reported that the 31-year-old nun named her son Francesco, which also happens to be the name of the current Pope (and TIME’s 2013 Person of the Year.)

Her fellow nuns back at the “Little Disciples of Jesus” convent said they were “very surprised” about all this. And the convent’s mother superior, Sister Erminia, said, “It seems she was not able to resist temptation.” You said it, Sister.

"It seems she was not able to resist temptation.” JUST LIKE MARY AND JOSEPH.

Wondering if this is at all an "Agnes of God" type of thing where the nun had no idea what CAUSES pregnancy and didn't understand the sexual act she was involved in because of the forced innocence or ignorance of the act of sex.  Just wondering.

Understatement of the year, so far.

There have been pregnant nuns since priests were forbade to marry, one reason for catholic orphanages.

This news is not complete and misleading. The said nun went back to her home country El Salvador last year, had affair with her childhood sweetheart and returned to Italy never knew she got pregnant.

Why do they think that people can suppress their natural human needs, is beyond me!  The whole abstinence policy, especially for years and yearsis just ridiculous!  We are humans and we were designed with natural desires!  Hence, so many alter boys, so little time!

I'm not sure- am I to believe we have witnessed another Catholic miracle (a virgin birth), or has she been spending private time with the pope?

What kind of a man sleeps with a nun? Perhaps one that didn't know she was a nun. They are not in their habits continually. This could have been a romance for all we know. Whoever said that most nuns are lesbians is in error. There is no higher incidence of gays and lesbians in the clergy population than in the general population. Culturally speaking, we expect that nuns and priests should not have sex at all. Perhaps marriage for certain clergy people should be considered. This new Pope might just be the one to allow marriage for priests. That would be a good thing I think.

At least she's not claiming immaculate conception.

needs a simple DNA test of the church people to solve the riddle

she MAY not have known she was pregnant - although a term-size baby kicking in your stomach is a bit hard to ignore or parse unless she is mentally deficient.

BUT SHE DID KNOW THAT SHE HAD SEX WITH SOMEBODY.

the only 'miracle' will be if somebody actually believes this is a virgin birth.

Obviously, this is a virgin birth, Jesus lives again!

She didn't know she could get pregnant off of candlewax

This is what happens when you combine a religion that allows drinking and makes the women not wear makeup. Some priest gets drunk and mistakes a nun for a alter boy.

See? This is what happens with "abstinence-only" sexual "education." Ooops. And, yes, I am laughing at her having no idea she was pregnant. Suuuuuuure...

You mean this wasn't a case of the Immaculate Conception #2?

@Mustbeheard  It was to keep the Money in the Church.  Not shared with 'spouses and children' Inheritance rights

@Mustbeheard Feminists like to call them alter boy/girls and want it to be just the girls. There is a church where they rewrote all the prayers and missals in the building to say his or her name. Example: Worship his or her holy name.

@EllaJay Mentally deficient? Pretty sure you haven't seen the "I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant" series, but you don't have to be rude about it. There's a good number of women who genuinely don't know, as every pregnancy is different.

And no one is claiming that she didn't, it's just an interesting article.

@BSF1The Immaculate Conception actually refers to the idea that Mary was kept free of sin from the time of her conception.  It is often misunderstood to be about the conception of Jesus.  I don't personally believe it, but that is what it means.

@BillDonnelly

”Original Sin” - The Catholic doctrine that everyone is born with sin, which is then forgiven at baptism. I don't recall the rationale, but that's what it is called and what it means.
