Assorted flavors of jelly beans wait to be packaged at the Jelly Belly Candy Co. manufacturing facility in Fairfield, California.

Gone are the days of creative but traditional jelly bean flavors like toasted marshmallow, cotton candy, and cream soda. Jelly Belly is rolling out two new, decidedly risky flavors: draft beer (yes!) and chocolate-covered Tabasco (hm).

The new flavors debuted at the Winter Fancy Food Show in San Francisco. The folks over at Foodbeast got their hands on some samples of the beer beans and report that they indeed taste like beer — though they report that the flavor’s really nothing special. Plus, they don’t contain any alcohol whatsoever, which is disappointing.

Jelly Belly waffled for a bit on what type of beer to emulate, but eventually settled on a German Hefeweizen ale flavor, the company explained in a press release.

Unfortunately, no word yet on how the chocolate-covered Tabasco beans taste. Both of the new varieties are available for sale online here and here, and they’ll soon be available at candy counters worldwide.
