A Texas police officer made a young boy’s day by pulling over to toss around a football over the weekend.

Dashboard camera footage posted to the Rosenberg Police Department’s Facebook page Saturday shows Sgt. Ariel Soltura pulling over his police car and Jermaine Ford, 10, crossing the street as if he was trying to get out of the way.

“I thought I was in trouble and did something wrong,” Ford told ABC News.

Soon enough, he comes back into the frame and catches a football soaring towards him. Then the officer appears, and the game begins.

Soltura told KTRK that he hopes the spur-of-the-moment interaction will encourage other residents to view the police as friendly neighbors rather than enemies: “If we see a kid kicking the can, they want us to go out there and replace that can with a ball, and hopefully we’ve made an impact on these kids’ futures for the rest of their lives.”
