Florida Town Names Vanilla Ice ‘Outstanding Citizen of the Year’

It’s official: rapper-turned-reality-TV-star Vanilla Ice (real name: Rob Van Winkle) will be named “Outstanding Citizen of the Year.”

Not by the entire universe or anything, just by the Florida town where he lives, but still. The Wellington Chamber of Commerce will present Mr. Ice with the honor at an even later this month, the Palm Beach Post reports. Officials selected him for his “for his “spirit of giving and dedication” to the town.

Van Winkle has resided in Wellington for more than a decade and has contributed to several local charities. He also films his reality TV show, The Vanilla Ice Projectin the South Florida town. Yes, he’s a nice, nice neighbor.

The chamber will present the award at a ceremony on Feb. 26. We just hope that when he goes up to accept the honor, he’ll rock the mic like a vandal, light up the stage and wax a chump like a candle.
