After a summer of protests, blogosphere turbulence and cable news boxing matches, the developers at the proposed Park51 Islamic Center in Lower Manhattan seem to be ready for another round. And this time, they’re taking it to the bank.
A suburban Nashville Islamic group can build a new mosque, despite the objections of those who believe the house of worship will foster Sharia law in America.
As protests in downtown Manhattan over the “Ground Zero” Mosque have escalated, violent incidents involving Muslims have increased. Forget simmering debate; this is closer to a full boil.
Apparently some of the people protesting the proposed Islamic center near the World Trade Center site are so eager to look for a scapegoat they’ll verbally beat up on anyone.
“Ground zero mosque” — the term is so simple! So evocative! So … inaccurate and misleading?
Though TIME’s recent poll shows that 61% of Americans object to the building of an Islamic center near Ground Zero, the Wall Street Journal reports that those local to the area don’t see what the big deal is.
Seriously, people, I think we all need a vacation here.
