‘Son of Sam’ Berkowitz Denied Parole for 5th Time

David Berkowitz is serving six life sentences for a string of New York City murders.

A parole board denied New York City serial killer David Berkowitz, the chance to leave prison on his fifth attempt to be released, the New York Daily News reports.Berkowitz, 56, infamously dubbed the “Son of Sam” after a killing spree that left six people dead and seven injured between 1976 and 1977, automatically receives a parole hearing every two years as part of his six life sentences.

However, the board at Sullivan Correctional Facility in Fallsburg, New York refused to free Berkowitz, saying in a statement that the murders “exhibited a total disregard for not only the law but the lives of innocent members of society.”

Berkowitz becomes eligible for parole again in 2012.
