In the eyes of South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford, the media is obsessed with his personal life. As for his ex-wife? Not so much.
Sanford may have told the AP his pleas that reporters pads, television cameras and Internet blogs find a topic to scribe about other than his exploits.
But by keeping his staff from disclosing the merits behind and out-of-state trip last weekend, and not mentioning mistress Maria Belen Chapur, good luck.
“As a matter of record, everybody in this room knows exactly who I was with over the weekend,” Sanford told the AP. “That is no mystery to anybody given what I said last summer.”
Full disclosure. Much better than the mea culpa. Got it.
In the meantime, the one person not concerned with Sanford’s travel itinerary is his ex-wife, Jenny Sanford. She’s shifted her focus to campaigning for a different gubernatorial candidate in Kentucky state Representative Nikki Haley. The AP reports that had it not been for his exploits, Mr. Sanford would be the main face on the campaign trail.
