Since planes started taking back off and oil started spilling in the Gulf, we haven’t heard much about Iceland’s Eyjafjallajökul. But a new HD time-lapse video released this week shows the terrible beauty of volcanic power.

After seeing the first footage from the eruption, videographer Sean Stiegemeier says he figured he could do better. And he did. After a four-day trek to the volcano — and four more days spent waiting for weather to improve — Steigmeier captured beautiful time-lapse footage, compressed down into a two-minute video.

On Steigmeier’s Vimeo page, he’s soliciting donations for a second trip back, as he missed the “cool Lightning and the Lava of the first eruption.” Here’s hoping he’ll get another shot.
