South Carolinian politics, not normally the most transfixing of subjects, took a turn for the weird as a blogger admitted today to allegedly having a long-ago affair with the gubernatorial front-runner.

Will Folks, a conservative blogger and former staffer for current South Carolinian Governor and reigning Love Guv, Mark Sanford wrote on his blog today that he had once an had an “inappropriate physical relationship” with State Representative Nikki Haley. Haley is currently the frontrunner for Republican nomination for the upcoming Gubernatorial race. “It is what it is,” writes Folks “and aside from the Haley family – Michael, Nikki, Rena and Nalin – I feel no need to apologize or explain myself to anyone. People are human. We make mistakes.”

Haley, who has been endorsed by Sarah Palin, Mitt Romney, and—oh, the irony— the woman the outgoing governor betrayed, Jenny Sanford, has denied the allegations. “I have been 100 percent faithful to my husband throughout our 13 years of marriage,” said Haley, who was raised in a Sikh family but identifies as a Christian. “This claim against me is categorically and totally false.”

Since Folks was considered to be one of her supporters, and said he was only coming clean to prevent her from being smeared by a whisper campaign, the whole thing is very weird and high-schooly. Nobody even knows if  Haley has ever visited the Appalachian Trail.
