Photos from BP (L) and Greenpeace (R)
Check out the differences between BP’s Flickr page on the oil spill and Greenpeace’s page.
Obviously these two groups have diametrically opposed objectives — BP is trying desperately to do damage control on its battered corporate image and Greenpeace is an environmental organization who zealously campaigns against offshore drilling — still, the differences in what they show is worth noting.
The majority of pictures on BP’s photo stream, of course, show photos of clean-up crews working diligently, installing booms and cleaning up beaches. The most interesting distinction is that BP has several photos of animals looking happy bobbing in a bubble bath — and very few of animals doused in oil.
Greenpeace’s Flickr page shows the thick sludge hitting shores, numerous photos of oil-covered birds and images of tar balls polluting pristine beaches. They further pull at the heartstrings by showing always-adorable dolphins frolicking in oily waters.
