Playboy’s New Site: Really Safe for Work?

Playboy launched TheSmokingJacket.com today, which it claims is a work-suitable site. But is your boss really okay with you looking at half-naked women instead of, well, working?

The Associated Press reports that the site will not feature the nudity that makes Playboy.com so dangerous to browse during the work day. Playboy.com receives most of its traffic after work, so TheSmokingJacket.com will occupy readers during the day with massive doses of dude humor. Today’s articles include “How to Get Laid at Work.”

Sure, funny articles are okay for work. But people who work for TheSmokingJacket.com must think that everyone’s bosses are as liberal as theirs — every other article features women wearing next to nothing. Sure, they’re not naked, but safe for work? Hardly — they’d certainly get attention if your boss stood behind your computer.

Procrastinating at work is a fine art. You want to distract yourself from mind-numbing Excel spreadsheets, but also look busy just in case your boss walks by. So kudos to Playboy for making a nudity-free site, but if you really wanted to read Playboy “for the articles,” then maybe you should wait until you get home.
