In what must be considered the least shocking sports story of the day, it looks like the veteran quarterback Brett Favre will be participating in his 20th NFL season with the expected announcement that he’ll be playing again for the Minnesota Vikings.

According to kicker Ryan Longwell, who spilled the beans in a text to ESPN reporter Rachel Nichols, Favre has allegedly told Longwell, guard Steve Hutchinson and defensive end Jared Allen that he would be turning out for the Vikings. “We simply went down there to get an answer and after talking for a while, his answer was ‘yes,'” Longwell wrote. “He loves the guys in the locker room and is doing it for all of us.”

The Vikings issued a schedule for Wednesday, so we know that head coach Brad Childress will hold his regular news conference but a “media availability with QB Brett Favre is to be determined.” As for Favre, his website said, “stay tuned for breaking news from the Minnesota Vikings today on Brett Favre’s possible return.”

NewsFeed gets the feeling that it will be writing this story every August until the end of time itself. And we’ll see you in December for those end of season interceptions. ‘Twas ever thus.
