Forgetful Fiji Loses Official Independence Document, Checks Couch Cushions

Get it together, Fiji. Clearly the tiny island nation had one too many coconut cocktails and lost its official document of independence. (via Telegraph)That’s right, the historical document that formalized its separation from Britain and declared it a sovereign nation has been missing since 2005. Five years!

Fiji has looked in all its government offices, rifled through filing cabinets and asked historians if they’d seen it, but to no avail. The 1970 document is gone.

Luckily, Britain sent over a photocopy.
