Was this a case of a morning drive disrupted by a personal tailspin?
ESPN Los Angeles reports that former All-Pro linebacker Junior Seau was involved in an early Monday car crash in San Diego County.
The 41-year-old reportedly drove his sport-utility vehicle off of a cliff in Carlsbad, Calif. The incident occurred, police told ESPN, hours after Seau was arrested on charges of felony spousal assault with injury. (See the top 10 NFL Draft flameouts.)
Seau made 12 trips to the Pro Bowl and two trips to the Super Bowl in his 19 NFL seasons with the San Diego Chargers, Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots.
He last played with New England in 2009, posting 14 tackles in seven games of action. (See photos of Super Bowl Stadiums.)
